Kids Lunches

What should I pack for my kids lunch to be healthy is a question that many parents ask. Some parents have difficult choices to make when it comes to what to put in their child’s lunch. Knowing what foods not to pack in lunch boxes can make the choices easier. For instance, children needs to build strong teeth and muscles even when they are away from home.

Foods loaded with calcium or vitamin D is great in supplying this important nutrient. A grilled cheese sandwich on wheat bread, a low fat carton of milk, roasted almonds, a fresh orange or apple, and some fresh raw broccoli with ranch dressing. This is just an example of a perfect well balanced lunch.

The traditional peanut butter and jam sandwiches are great too. It is a good idea to spice up the lunches with some new foods about twice per week. Children become bored with the same lunch every day. Try substituting milk and replacing it with orange juice, fresh broccoli can be replaced with cooked cheese and broccoli and some brown rice on the side.

Mozzarella cheese sticks, pudding cups, whole wheat dinner rolls, and pita bread stuffed with vegetables are also healthy and nutritious foods that will go good inside the lunch box. Boiled eggs, fish sticks and banana slices are also good and healthy foods to consider.

A healthy lunch is one that is loaded with all the essential irons, proteins, and vitamins a child will need throughout the day. Even though no single lunch can provide all of these nutrients, it is a start. Children can get some of their daily nutrient allowances at school while they are away from home, and when they return they can get the remainder of what they need to develop their minds and bodies.

Look at some sample lunches on the internet and get an idea of what to fix. Mostly, a sandwich, fresh fruit, milk or juice and a snack is just fine.
